ROOF FLASHING FAQ
It depends on what materials are being used – how many lineal meters are required and also what is the design (if a custom flashing is selected). When it comes to colour, this does not always matter – unless it is real cooper, stainless steel or any other colour which comes from genuine metals that are more costly.
There are many options when it comes to selecting roof flashing. The most common today are those made from plane zincalume flashing or powder coated steels such as Colorbond. This variety is generally a custom design.
Other options are the traditional lead flashing which is more costly and due to this, many opt for newer materials which tend not to last as long. Newer roof flashing materials are many. It is important to select one that will give you many years of protection. We’ve seen many that should not be used on buildings due to how quickly they deteriorate when constantly exposed to the sun.
We use high grade materials for our roof flashing so you’re in good hands with Kangaroof.
Roof flashing, such as lead flashing will start to split or crack as it ages. Once you notice this, you should consult a roof specialist to discuss possible restoration or replacement options to avoid moisture ingress into your roof.
Some types of roof flashing are long lasting and should be restored to extend their lifespan. With properly applied UV coating, roof flashing can last a very long time.
If the wrong type of metal roof flashing is installed, this can become detrimental to your roof and home. It is best that you deal with a roofing specialist that knows which metals are incompatible and inspects your whole roof to ensure any runoff will not affect the lower parts of your roof and gutters.
